  • Why learn to swim?
    Why learn to swim?
Learning to swim is an important part of every child's education. Every child will be exposed to water situations, whether it's swimming pools, lakes, or the creek behind the house. Becoming water-safe is essential for both parents' and children's well-being. In addition to water safety, swimming is a great activity for recreation that can be enjoyed by all ages. Every parent would like their child to be able to swim well enough to enjoy the beach, boating trips, pool parties, and other water activities. At some point in their lives, most children will have a need to become safe and competent swimmers. Most experts agree that swimming 300 yards of freestyle is a good me
  • At what age should children learn to swim?
At what age should children learn to swim?
Many children begin swimming as infants and there is no doubt the water provides a very special experience for the young child. The SwimKids' SwimBabies program begins lessons as young as 6 months of age with a parent. Babies under one year often adapt to the water more readily than older children and the weightless environment of the water gives them a great place to exercise their young muscles. Whatever your child's age, a positive experience in the water gives them a head start on the mastery of water safety skills.

If your child is ever near the water, it is never too early to begin working on their water safety skills. But please remember that just because your child is in swimming lessons does not mean your child is water safe! The safety of your child depends on constant parental vigilance!
  • How long will it take for my child to become water safe?
How long will it take for my child to become water safe?
Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Babies and toddlers who have had positive water experiences early tend to develop faster because they do not develop a fear for the water. Keeping this in mind, the younger they get started, the sooner they will become safe and happy swimmers.

Learning to swim is not a skill that you can learn in just a few easy lessons, but requires time to develop and practice. At SwimKids Swim School, we recommend making swimming part of your weekly activities, swimming once per week on an extended basis. This is the best way to encourage and maintain the water safety and fitness benefits that swimming offers you. Most experts agree that the goal of 300 yards of freestyle is a good measure of water safety.

Should my child take group or private lessons?
At SwimKids Swim School we favor group swim lessons for children who are ready to learn in a small group setting. Small groups of five children or less in our SwimTots and SwimKids classes provide instruction, practice and the opportunity to watch others children perform the skill.

However not all children learn best in group lessons. Parents must take into account their child's temperament and learning style. Private or semi private lessons are also available.

    What is the make-up policy?

There are no make-ups available for Summer Swim Camp, Spring Break Camp, or Summer League Prep.

For once/week swim school classes, SwimKids offers a Flex Plan, which includes the ability to make up 1 lesson per month.

Customers who prefer to have the option of being able to make up missed lessons may choose the *Flex* Plan for an additional $10 per month. Lessons are made up in available spaces in other classes; for example, if you are a weeknight customer, we will offer you another weeknight or weekend class for your make-up. If no classes are available in current classes, we will schedule a make-up class the last week of the month.  Private and semi-private lessons are made up in group classes.

  • Why should we wear the SwimKids suits?
Why should we wear the SwimKids suits?
The SwimKids swimsuits are part of the technical equipment that we use to teach your child to swim quickly. Most fashion suits for girls and trunks for boys can hold up to 5 pounds of water! • What is the Inclement Weather Policy?
What is the Inclement Weather Policy?
SwimKids does not follow the school or the Federal Government closings, as the counties make decisions for different geographic areas and timelines than we do for our swim schools.

In the case of inclement weather, just as when your child is ill, please use your best judgment for your family in deciding whether or not to come to swim class.

SwimKids will cancel lessons in some cases of inclement weather, but sometimes your street may be different than at the pool!

If you are unsure as to whether or not swim classes are being held, please call your location. If we are cancelling class because of the weather, we will post that cancellation on our Facebook page and update our voicemail message as soon as the cancellation is made. If you do not hear a cancellation recording on our voicemail, it means our classes are being held on our regular schedule.

You will not get a cancellation call for a cancellation in the case of inclement weather as it would take the whole day or evening to call all of you, which would be too late!

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes weather situations can occur as you are travelling to or during swim classe. We do our best to update our Facebook page and the voicemail message as soon as a weather cancellation is made. If we do cancel classes (for any reason), we will schedule a free replacement class for you.

For the most up-to-the-minute news on cancellations and weather closures, please check our Facebook Page. Our voice messages at each location are always updated as soon as a cancellation is made. Thank you!
